PWA Suffer Hard Loss
Finally back to full strength with Gibbons returning to the line up, and the crew over various flu bugs, the PWA Clippers lose D-MAN Rendall with a confirmed broken wrist in the first period of game #1 in the Newmarket York Simcoe series.  Rendall moved to clear the puck and received a hard hit, falling awkwardly against the boards.

The Clippers battled through, but fell to the Redmen with a final score of 5 - 3 in favour of the hometown team.

The game started off with a miss on the shot-gun play, allowing an early goal for the Redmen, scored at 9:49 of the first. The Redmen moved up the tally to 2-0 but not until 7:03 of the second.  Clippers finally struck with 2:35 minutes remaining in the second period on a shot by Von Kaufmann (#12) assisted by Tratnik (#7), but the home boys silenced the rally with another goal only 14 seconds later.  Coach Joe used the time-out to re-group the players and switch-up netminders.

With a 3-1 score to start the third period, the Clippers still had lots of time to even up the board, but Newmarket put 2 more unanswered goals in the back of the net at 11:34 and again at 4:58 of the final period.  At 5-1 it didn't seem too likely to recoup the loss, but it was great to see a few more sparks fly as Gunathunge (#17 unassisted) surprised the Redmen with a tucked-in wrap around with still 4 minutes to play.  Rodgers (#10) made it 3 for the Clippers at 1:29 remaining, assisted by Tratnik (#7) with a hard pass from the blue line to the centre traffic in the Redmen zone.

With the empty net laying in wait, Newmarket pinged one just slightly off the post for an icing call, and with too little time left, the Clippers squad left the ice at 5-3 for the rival team and with a mission to take back the next game on Saturday, February 5th.

Come out and cheer on the team and check out Rendall's new hardware at the Clipper Complex on Saturday.

Hey #9 we're all cheering for you buddy!!!
