Boyd's Super Sport Player of the Game
Our player of the game this week is Madison D.
This is Madison’s second year of playing ice hockey and she has made steady improvement in her skating and playing skills. Madison usually plays right defense but this week she wanted to try to play in goal. During practice on Tuesday, Madison found it difficult at first to skate with the goalie pads. By the end of the practice she was able to skate and maneuver without falling too many times.
Prior to the game, Madison was nervous but also very excited about the upcoming game. The first shift did not go well. The opposing team scored two quick goals. After the second goal, the coaching staff asked Madison to move out of her net just a little, to the top of the goal crease. This small correction gave her a chance to deflect the pucks into the corner and provided a little confidence boost. From that point, Madison gained more and more confidence with every shot directed her way. Throughout the remainder of the game, Madison did her best to keep the puck out of the net, stopping shot after shot, while her teammates began to score goals in the other net. After those first two goals, Madison only allowed three more goals the rest of the game and helped her team in their 8-5 win.
