Clipper Minor Atom AE - Garden City Warrior Tournament Champions!
The Minor Atom AE Clippers won their division championships this weekend at the Garden City Warrior Tournament by beating their York Simcoe Division rivals, Georgina Blaze in the tournament finals.
The Minor Atom AE Clippers won their division championships this weekend at the Garden City Warrior Tournament by beating their York Simcoe Division rivals, Georgina Blaze in the tournament finals.
The team opened the tournament against Georgina and after falling behind 1-0 early in the third period the team rallied with 3 unanswered goals to win the first game 3 -1. Sebastian Schembri scored twice assisted by Brandon Jewett, and Mathew Hodgins closed out the game with a goal with only a fewseconds left in the third period. Ethan Harela made many difficult saves to keep the Clippers ahead.
Following two more hard fought games on Saturday, the team found themselves facing Georgina again in the championship game Sunday morning. Once again, the two teams battled hard and traded chances back and forth. Georgina took the early lead again, this time scoring late in the first period. Undaunted, the Clippers battled back to tie the game half way through the second on agoal by Sebastian Schembri, assisted by Patrick Cummins. Less than one minute into the third period the Clippers took the lead on a goal by Ethan Musson,assisted by Ben Russo and never looked back. Strong defense by the Clippers blue liners and many great saves by goaltender Thomas King held off several Georgina scoring charges and the team held on to win the championship game by a score of 2-1.
The rest of the entire team consisting of Jadon Ratti, Garrett Geminiuc, Hailey Craven, Jason Devitt, Mathew Hodgins, Ben Veitch, Jared Henriques, Brayden Mcgee, Madison Ribi, and Ryan O'Leary all played very well and made all of the coaches and parents extremely proud. Way to go Clippers!
