Clippers Shine in Mid-Week Waxer Match-Up
The Clippers surprised on Wednesday Jan. 9 with their strongest showing to date against the Waxers, putting up a 5-1 victory.
This was unexpected based on the 2 pre-Christmas matches, where the games were tighter, both denying the Waxers any points, but with goals-for limited to 2.
The mathematical difference could be attributed to Hayden, who triumphed with a tidy hat-trick to put up the first 3 goals (the first unassisted, second assisted by Matthew (16), and the the third with assists to Charlie (91) and Nolan (37)). Cal (15) made it 4 goals (another point on the assist to Hayden and 2nd point of the night for Charlie) and the final Clipper goal to Christian (93) assisted by line-mate Connor (18).
Strong D throughout the evening made it hard on the Waxers, and Aaron was working a nice shut-out. But to the Waxers credit, their determination finally gave them a point, breaking the spectre of being shut-out again by the Clippers. Really nice back-checking was evident throughout the game, and Charlie showed tremendous discipline covering the point for Nolan as he pinched and setup in the crease to put pressure on the Waxer goaltender.
Clippers will see the Waxers one more time on home ice before the season concludes, no doubt our opponents will be more determined than ever to take one game in our 4 game match-ups, so the Clippers will need to bring their best to keep their record in tact.
