Clippers Mixed Results in Back to Back Weekend
Clippers had a double header weekend, facing the Blaze at home on Saturday, then taking it to the road in New Tecumseth to face the high ranking TNT Tornadoes.
The boys were full of vim and vigour pre-game on Saturday, and put up 2 quick goals to lead through mot of the game. The Clippers dominated most of the play, with aggressive defensive and speed, but couldn't convert to a 3rd and winning goal. The match ended in a tie at 2-2.
The Sunday locker room mood was substantially subdued compared to 24 hours earlier. TNT was a formidable te1m in 2012-13 and the Clippers knew this team would be a hard battle. Winning battles on the boards, keeping players wide, defending at the net would be the factors that would make the difference. Netwminder, Adrian, would have his work cut out for him.
TNT did not disappoint. The coaches called it before the game - they showed strong passing and instincts to shoot at the net early and often. They struck first at 4:55 of the first, and again before the first buzzer. The Clippers picked up their game and kept battling and finally nailed one on a great effort by Jesse. By the third, the Clippers were pushing harder, and took a few penalties to give the Tornadoes advantage. Great PKs ensued and the boys in black actually had more shots sailing to the net in the third to rally the team.
TNT put up one more to end the scoring at 3-1, but the coaches were happy with the compete level of the team in this match.
Lot of hockey ahead pre-holidays. Come out to cheer on the Clippers as we battle toward a spot in the OMHA playdowns.
