Atom AE Clippers Hang It Up for Season
Our Atom AE Club have shut 'er down for the season, hanging up their hats and skates for the last time.  The competition for the season closed out a split decision in a two game series for the York Simcoe Lakeshore Challenge against the Whitby Wildcats, hosted in TNT this weekend.

The YS-Lakeshore Challenge was a new addition to the season`s game-play last year, with each region`s respective Champions coming together to have a 2 game showdown for a bit of extra fun.

The Clippers had a full roster on Saturday, and played one of their strongest games, taking 4 points vs 1 for Whitby in game 1, and winning the game 3-2.  Points were allocated per period so that the two games would end with a single winner.  Adrian played a strong game in net, and had excellent defensive support, not just from the D, but from strong back checking as well.

Scoring opened up with an unassisted play by Ben (43) at 1:07 of the first, giving Clippers a point advantage.  Whitby tied it up on the scoreboard at 7:44 of the second, but heroic efforts in front of the net finally paid off for Jesse (55) who netted a `tie-ìng` goal before the second period buzzer (assist to Michael 27). With the Clippers up a goal tension mounted in the third.  For what was supposed to be a fun game, the heat was turning up, especially as the Wildcats took penalty after penalty, (3 tripping calls, one body check and a roughing call).  The Wildcats might have wanted to cry foul, but it was clear they were not expecting to be down to the Clippers tight play.  Unfortunately, the Clippers failed to convert on the power play opportunities and at 4:33 the Wildcats had the satisfaction that they tied the score at 2-2.  With only 42 seconds remaining, Evan (67) scored a beauty, assisted by Charlie (91) on a cross crease pass.  FINAL 3-2 for the boys in white, ending with 4 points going into game 2.

The Clippers would need 2 points of the 5 possible to clinch.  Win two periods, or some combination to take two points.

However, Sunday was a different story for the boys, now in black.  A little less hustle, and role reversal on penalties cinched the their fate.  This time Whitby took the first period with a score of 1-0, and the Clippers came back and managed to tie the second period, with a tie-ing goal with 1:39 remaining scored by Jesse (55), (assisted by Michael 27 and Matt 2).  The third would need to produce a win for the Clippers to force OT or a win for the game.  Whitby had something else in mind, and instead put up 4 more goals in the third.  Connor (18) managed another goal for the Clippers on a break away effort, but alas, not enough to take on the Title of Titles.

Coach Ross congratulated the boys on the season, and took a moment to remind them how every game, every period, every play needed to count... When the boys do this, as they have time and again this year, we can see the results.

Couldn`t be prouder of the progress of this team of gangstas...

WELL DONE BOYS.... LOOK OUT NEXT YEAR.
