Clippers Split Games One and Two at Bradford Blue & Gold
Fair to say, the Clipper PW AE team was on fire, arriving at Bradford pumped and ready to play at the Bradford Blue & Gold.  Facing Newmarket for game 1 (ranked 19th in Ont in early season going), the Clippers matched the play of the Redmen.  The pace was fast, the penalties were plenty on both sides, but the Clippers prevailed with a game winning goal in the last 3 minutes on a weird angle shot from David, deflected to beat the Newmarket minder.  Final tally was 3-2.  (2 Goals from David, 1 from Hayden - who was gain perfectly positioned to take advantage of the pass from behind the net and place it impossibly for the goaltender).

The afternoon play had the boys again in Black facing Barrie's A squadron.  This time the Barrie team beat us to the first goal, and put up 3 before the boys rallied with an amazing effort by Matty to get through a tremendous amount of D traffic from the neutral zone, weaving and stick-handling to right in front of the goalie, where Matty made good to bring the score to 3-1.  The fans cheered with a booming echo in the near empty space of the Bradford Leisure centre on this Friday afternoon.  Late in the game, Prentice managed to finally get the Clippers unstuck from our own end, and Charlie and Evan raced each side of the rink with an unusual 2 on 1 for us.  The D was stuck in the middle when Evan shot it right under the pads of the netminder, bringing us to 3-2.  With still some time on the clock, not much mind you, the Clippers pressed harder than ever, and had to battle through a late penalty call.

Unfortunately the time was not on our side, and the buzzer ended it at a satisfying 3-2 the wrong way.  Still the boys played with tonnes of heart.  They showed fatigue in game 2 much earlier, and were not as strong as game 1, but truly they played an excellent game.

MVP for Game 1 was Evan after an incredible 20-30second battle to hold the puck deep in Newmarket territory on our PK, and Ethan for Game 2, for keeping us in the game throughout the Barrie battle.  Adrian and Ethan were both just tremendous in these matches and the team support was fantastic.

Great work guys.  On to games 3 and 4 tomorrow.
