The Spirit of Giving
The Clippers have been busy since our last article - with a great performance in the Silver Stick (Tying Uxbridge 1-1; Winning against Aurora and Georgina, but unfortunately after a hard battle, losing in in the semi's 1-0 in the final minutes of the third).  League record still stands tall, marking only one loss since the tourney (Dec 19 to Markham), but taking back 2 points the next night against nemesis Barrie White....

Forgive the shorthand on our game results, but afterall, we are steam-roller-blading ahead with only 2 days to go til Christmas.  So there is much to do off the ice as we take a short and much needed break from the hockey rink to re-group with family, friends and other sometimes forgotten parts of ourselves.

Christmas brings with it festivities and fun, and no more powerfully so than for the kids.  School break, candy and staying up late.  Presents, presents and more presents.  Friends, fun-times and FOOD (often the kind you just don't get at other times of the year - think ELF a.k.a. Will Farrell and his version of the four food groups - candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup).

With so much focus on fun to the max, the original meaning of the gift exchange can get lost in the shuffle. In the spirit of giving, the Clippers donated various items for the Stouffville Lions Club as a way to share with those in need.  Each Christmas the Lions Club collects for needy local families, assembling toys, gifts and food vouchers for Stouffville residents in need of some holiday assistance.  With a basket full of donations, targeting teens and food items, the PWAE Clippers delivered to Richard Fronske of the Lions.  Richard explained that this year they had prepared over 60 baskets for families.  Some of the donated toys also go toward the local library programmes and some toward the hospital, where the Lions sponsor a play area for visiting children.  Mr. Fronske had been working at the Lion's Toy Drive centre for a straight week, taking time off from work to dedicate to helping the community.  Now THAT is giving.  It was an honour for the team to be part of something meaningful for our own community.

The Clippers also enjoyed their own version of a Secret Santa exchange - full on with creativity, and a few 'steals' along the way, as the boys and their sibs all took turns choosing a mystery gift from the gift table, or going for the sure thing by stealing from someone who had already opened a gift.  The Clipper Express turned-out to be a popular steal.  Someone can go into business making this nifty sleigh replete with 9 reindeer... or were they chocolate bars wrapped in craft paper with googly eyes and pom pom noses?  Only Matty Ferris will know for sure. Top marks also to the Frosty the Snow Box Man.  With 3 huge boxes to unwrap, it just was not clear if there was anything hidden within, until finally the ear-flapping, jiggling and jaggling puppy dog hat emerged to great glee.  Oh what fun it is to laugh and sing a festive time tonight!

All good fun. All good cheer.

Merry Christmas to all!  Feliz Navidad!  Joyeux Noel!  Season's Greetings!  Happy Holidays!

And may 2016 bring continued fun, friendship and great experiences to all.  See you back at the rink to support the Clippers in a match up against Georgina on Dec 27th.
