WHAT IS SELECT HOCKEY

Select hockey is a bridge between house league hockey and a more competitive level of hockey (MD, A, AA & AAA). All house league players are invited to try out for the Select team for their particular age group. If a player is chosen, and agrees to join the Select team, the player still plays with their house league team as well as the Select team. These 2 teams run independently of each other. The Select team will play against neighboring towns' Select teams and may also play in up to 3 tournaments throughout the season. There is an additional cost for joining a Select team, although the cost is not as great as it is for a Representative team, parents should be prepared to pay approximately $1000 to as much as $1500 per player in addition to the WSMHA registration fee. Those amounts fluctuate depending on team fundraising efforts, sponsorships, etc. As with REP teams, the head coach and team manager will provide a budget for expected team finances at the beginning of the season, and the team may acquire sponsorship or organize fundraising events to offset the team expenses.

WHO CAN PLAY SELECT HOCKEY

In order to attend a Select evaluation, the player must be registered with the WSMHA. If you live outside the WSMHA boundaries, you must check with the hockey office to ensure eligibility. The Select head coach will select their team from those players that attend the try out.

PLAYER COMMITMENT

All players that are selected for a Select team must attend their house league practices and games in addition to their Select practices and games. House league is a prerequisite of Select and as such takes precedence over the Select program.
