Cougars bite Clippers
It was the big anticipated home opener for the Tyke B squad this evening vs the Cobourg Cougars! All of the kids and the coaching staff were excited to play in front of a packed house of friends and family. The coach was pleased with the latest practice leading up to this game as the players worked really hard on their skating and puck control. We were determined to give the opponents all they could handle tonight.

Cobourg came out skating hard in the first period and put pressure on the Clippers from the get go. Our tyke b's fought hard keeping the cougars on the outside however our net was being flooded with shots. It took some huge saves from our starting goalie #29 Robbie D to keep the score only 1-0 after the first period. Cobourg made it 2-0 early in the second when our Clippers D turned the puck over in the defensive zone (remember to get that puck up the boards Clippers). Our D men and women :) were stellar tonight fighting off lots of tight battles in front of our busy goalies Robbie D and Luca S who shut the door for the rest of the second period. Our forwards really turned up the skating effort in the second period and we were much more competitive only losing the period 1-0. (Remember forwards, always skate your hardest and never give up trying to win that puck)

Trailing going into the third, I tried to motivate the players in between periods by looking at the scoreboard to realize we were only down by 2 goals. I then asked them to look in the crowd to see all of the friends and family watching in anticipation of a possible comeback win!!! However, Cobourg were also motivated and were simply the better team out skating and out battling the Clippers for the final 10 mins. #31 Luca S also made some big saves but it was not enough as the Cougars netted 3 more to steal the 5-0 victory.

I am proud of the progress thus far Clippers so keep up the hard work and remember, winning doesn't matter. I'll let you tell your parents what does matter!!

Congrats to the MVP of tonight's game - Sebastian Mason!! Great job Sebastian, well deserved for your excellent skating tonight.
