The Clippers missed in their last 3 showings, trailing by a goal in each of three consecutive heart-breaking losses. With hopes riding high that with the right combination, the Clippers might surprise and take top spot, the final 6 points instead put RH and TNT out of reach, and Markham proved a spoiler as they celebrated with their first victory over Stouffville for the year last weekend.
It was close, in all cases, and maybe bad luck or bad karma... Maybe over-confidence, maybe the psychology and pressure of clutch games...Whatever the combination of causes, the Clippers are heading into OMHA playdowns facing the top placed team, versus our fourth placed ranking.
Coach Ross neverminds the underdog position, and commented,
"These were all win-able games. When we play our game and stay out of the box, we can beat any one of these top teams. We're right there."
It has been a tight grouping all through the season, which will make for a spirited finish, not just in the OMHA level playdowns, but also for the York Simcoes. Aurora is a strong 5th with some very narrow losses knocking them to 5th spot. The Clippers will have to show a lot of gusto for each and every outing going into the playoffs. Let's see if they can surprise again with a turn-around of fortunes.
