Ca-na-da!
Ca-na-da! There’s nothing like a
head-to-head Canada-USA hockey tournament to get the competitive juices
flowing. This past week-end, the Stouffville Clippers Minor
Atom AA team participated in the Nations Cup in Detroit. The Clippers were among nine 2006 teams who
crossed the border for this North American showdown.
The team had a very successful tournament. They finished with a 3-2 record and were seeded fourth amongst the Canadian teams. The boys played hard. They had scoring from all their forward lines, as well as from their defense. They adjusted to the aggressive play of their opponents. They even won both of their Saturday games after staying up late for a Red Wings game the night before.
Sunday was bittersweet. While the Clippers fell 2-1 to their US opponent in a close game, they were part of the Canada 2006 team that won gold. After the final Canadian team won the deciding game, all the Canadian players were invited onto the ice to share in the special moment. They came together for a heartfelt singing of our national anthem, in a joyous expression of national pride.
Congratulations Minor Atom AA Clippers for a great tournament. Go Canada, Go!
