Whitchurch-Stouffville children and young teens who
haven’t played hockey previously can learn free of charge this winter, thanks
to a local program being offered for the fourth year.
Come Try Hockey is aimed at girls and boys aged 5 to
14 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of the game. The program, which is being supported by Hockey Canada, is fully sponsored by Stouffville’s Kids First Fund, an offshoot of the Whitchurch-Stouffville Minor Hockey Association.
“It's all about building community
through this game many of us love,” Peter Harmsen of the Kids First Fund. “We
know there are kids and teens in Stouffville who have never held a stick, worn
the equipment or shot a puck. We want to give them that opportunity to
hopefully pick up a pastime they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.”
Beginning January 21, 2026, the program runs for eight sessions on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7:15 pm (5 -7 year olds) and 7:15 - 8:15 pm ( 8 - 14 year olds) at the Stouffville Arena, 12483 Ninth Line.
Registration opens on Monday December 15th at 6:00 pm. Space is limited. Register early to avoid missing out.
