HEAD COACH -NORM FRETZ

Background

Growing up in Stouffville, I was proud to play for the Clippers rep program, representing a community that has always meant so much to me and my family. One of my most memorable accomplishments as a player was winning an OMHA Championship. The experience competing at a high level and achieving success with a close-knit team helped shape both my character and my passion for the game.

I also had the opportunity to play high school hockey and rugby at Stouffville District Secondary School winning York Region Championships which further strengthened my love for team competition.

My commitment to Clippers hockey continued behind the bench when I returned to Stouffville after my post-secondary education.  I served as Assistant Coach and we raised another OMHA Championship banner in the rafters of Pad A. This experience developed my confidence in a leadership role and fostered a strong desire to inspire the next generation.

All of these experiences and relationships have carried with me into the Stouffville Amateur Hockey League, where they continue to foster friendships and strengthen connections within our community.

Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is centered on developing a love for hockey. Creating great people first and great hockey players second. I believe in teaching strong character, leadership, integrity, work ethic and values that extend far beyond the rink.

Development

I strive to help athletes become supportive teammates who respect the game and one another.

On the ice, I emphasize effort, strong fundamentals, and the development of each player’s hockey IQ. I want players to learn how to think the game, compete responsibly, and build habits that will allow them to succeed both in hockey and in life.

For me, coaching is about giving back to the community that shaped me and helping the next generation grow as players, teammates, and people.
