HEAD COACH - JAY BEUVING

BACKGROUND

Firstly, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for being given the opportunity to be the Head Coach for the U15A Stouffville Clippers.

A little about myself, I am a Captain with the Central York Fire Department (Newmarket).  I have lived in Stouffville for the past 19 years where I have been actively involved in various sports and teams in the community. Along with my 3 children Jacob, Molly and Brady, I continue to and will always call Stouffville home.  All of my children play rep sports and we can often be found in hockey rinks and soccer fields.  In my childhood I played minor hockey at various levels in Timmins, Ontario where I learned the fundamentals of hockey skills, team work and competitive spirit which I try to translate into todays game and the ever changing skill base of todays players. I have coached many levels including U8 select, U11A-14A and multiple house league teams in that time. This has given me a clear understanding of the development and programs needed to develop athletes at the Rep level. I am looking forward to upcoming season and look forward to meeting all of you around the rink.

GOALS/PROGRAM

This year we will be focusing on a 6 principle approach.  These will include :

  1. Culture & Character Development:  Goal-Build high-character athletes who represent the program with pride
  2. Skill Development: Goal- Produce technically strong, confident hockey players.
  3. Hockey IQ & Systems Understanding: Goal -Develop players who think the game, not just play it.
  4. Physical Development: Goal-Build durable, strong, and explosive athletes.
  5. Competitive Standard:  Goal-Establish a relentless, hard-to-play-against identity
  6. Academic & Personal Responsibility: Goal-Develop complete student-athletes with community involvement.

In addition to these principles, the team will focus on true team building and having a positive approach to competition and working as a team. It will be imperative and the expectation that the players are committed to the team and team functions, practices and games with attendance and attitude being measured throughout the year. Various methods of external training will be utilized such as power skating, edge work, personal health and strengthening as well as skills and shooting training. I will strive to build the players on and off the ice and to equip them with the mindset and ability to have a successful season not only as a team but as individuals. The team will participate in 3-4 tournaments throughout the season in which to provide the players and families a chance to bond and grow together with the ultimate goal of winning and success on the ice.
