Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

The process for the VSC has been centralized and is conducted by the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) for all team officials. The OHF verifies the VSC and updates the volunteers HCR profile. This is no longer done by the local hockey associations It is imperative for all team staff, on-ice and off-ice volunteers as well as 3rd-party instructors ensure their Vulnerable Sector Check is completed and approved by the OHF to be eligible to participate with on-ice or off-ice team functions. Any volunteer 18 years of age and older can apply for a VSC. If you live in York Region or Durham Region, applications are processed through your local police service. If you live in Toronto, please contact the hockey office for instructions.

For the 2026 - 2027 season, a VSC obtained in 2024 and 2025 is still valid and can be uploaded to the OHF for processing. Volunteers can check the expiry date of a VSC on file by accessing their Spordle - My Account
DO NOT UPLOAD A VSC TO YOUR SPORDLE PROFILE.

OHF FAQ

Step 1

If your VSC expired or you do not have a VSC, download the Volunteer Letter above and apply for the VSC through police department that you reside in. Do not move onto step 2 until you have received your VSC and it is in PDF format. Only PDF versions of your VSC can be uploaded to the OHF portal. Pictures will not be accepted by the OHF.

Step 2

Once you have your new VSC in PDF format, it is required to be uploaded to the OHF portal for verification and the OHF will update your HCR profile. During this process, the volunteer must complete the yearly Declaration. Both the VSC and the Declaration must be verified by the OHF to be eligible to be placed on a roster. Use the following link to the OHF website to "Start the Process"

Step 3

If your VSC is still valid, the yearly Declaration is still required. The Declaration is completed on the OHF portal. Use the following link to the OHF website to "Start the Process"

Step 4

Most Important Step

In 2-3 business days, your Spordle profile will be updated confirming you have a valid VSC on file. This is visible by logging into your Spordle Account and seeing a Valid_Backgroun_Check.png icon . Your VSC has now been approved. If after 2-3 business days the green icon does not appear, contact the OHF by email at [email protected] inquiring about the status of your submission.

The WSMHA does not have access to monitor your submission through the screening process and can not answer any questions regarding it's status. It is your responsibility to ensure the process is complete and that the VSC and the Declaration have been verified and accepted by the OHF. A volunteer can not be added to an official roster or participate in team activities unless they have a valid VSC on file.
