Stouffville Goes AA
The Ontario Minor Hockey Association announced on Friday that the WSMHA has been re-categorized as a AA centre effective with the 2011-12 season.
Stouffville rep teams which previously competed against "A" teams in League, OMHA Playdowns and tournaments will now play AA calibre teams.  Additional Entry (AE) teams will not be affected by the change in base category.

WSMHA President Don Easter suggested that the OMHA's decision should be looked upon as a positive development for local players and their supporters. "It is first of all a tribute to the contribution our players and volunteers have made to the past successes our Association has enjoyed both on and off the ice.  Moving forward, it will create opportunities for local players to advance their skills by playing against higher level competition while representing their home town."

WSMHA Vice-President Greg Smith said "We've been aware for some time that a re-classification to AA was a possibility so we've been working to create an infrastructure and development programs for both coaches and players that will enable us to meet the challenge.  There will be some bumps along the road, but we're excited by the possibilities and confident that our players and coaches will step up."
