Head Coach - Mike McGuire

I’m grateful to be named Head Coach of the 2025/26 U10A team in what will be my third at the competitive level with this group of 2016-born athletes.  I moved to Stouffville with my family in 2009 and have been an active member in the community ever since.  This will be my 10th season coaching with WSMHA, and I’ve served on our Board of Directors in multiple roles for over 8 years.   My 3 sons are all proud Clippers.

Background
I played my minor hockey in Richmond Hill (yes, I was born in the same hospital as Connor McDavid) and started coaching hockey and lacrosse while I was still in high school.  After university, I worked for McGuire Hockey as an instructor and attended multiple hockey development summits to improve my skills as a coach and instructor.  In 2018 I owned and operated a private goalie focused hockey training facility in Vaughan.  I served as President of the WSMHA from 2019 - 2022 and recently helped create the Competitive Pathway Program, an initiative through York Simcoe Minor Hockey League designed to help continue development of our young players and keep U7, U8, and U9 competitive hockey strong in our communities.

Philosophy
I believe the life skills associated with playing on a competitive team at a young age can have a long-term impact on children and their families.   My primary commitment is to nurturing the potential of each one of my players, ensuring that they not only improve their skills but also grow as individuals. A “team first” mindset emphasizes the importance of effort, respect, and a genuine love for the game.  I strive to equip the young athletes who play for me with the confidence necessary to succeed in sports and life.  I am also a strong believer in the importance of developing and raising the level of the organization so helping players “graduate” the next tier of competitive hockey is a personal benchmark for a successful season.
