News from the Chicken Coop
Well let's hope the Carricks have some clucky connections, because on December 19th, the Clippers made up for lost time, putting 7 in the net.
But that's not all, the refs had their eye on the play and handed out 8 assists to accompany the run-up of chicken delight. Wood-McFarlands and Taylor-Tratniks are in for $5/assist, so there's another $80 toward the farmyard.
For those still wondering why Ed Matthews has been queuing up the Chicken Dance following the horn for each Clipper goal, in the spirit of the season and to add a bit of fun to the game play, the Carrick Family has generously sponsored each goal by donating a chicken to World Vision. Following the "CLUCKS for PUCKS" campaign, jumping on the farm-wagon, the Wood-McFarlands and Taylor-Tratniks are in for $5/assist, and the team players will decide what else to add to the World Vision donation with the 'assists-funding'.
Whether motivated by the Chickens or our new theme music "The Chicken Dance", the Clippers seemed to have a hearty appetite for scoring on December 19th against the Schomberg Red Wings . Horner (88) took the first 2 goals, starting with one at 13:09 of the second, assisted by Brown (11). Horner followed with goal #2 at 9:49 of the second (unassisted). Once the chicken dance got started, it did not seem to want to stop: Brown (11) assisted by Dunlop (8) scored again less than 2 minutes later, Rodgers (10) with assists from Rendall (9) and Messner (2) on the next shift, and goal #5 rang in yet again about 2 minutes later on a clean slapshot from Dunlop (8), assisted by Rendall (9) and Horner (88). This closed the second period at 5 - 0.
Two more goals were earned in the third, the first coming from Messner (2) at 11:19, assisted by AP Vasconcellos (18), and the final goal from Vasconcellos (18) assisted by Dunlop (8).
Matthews earned the shut-out.
This was a great team effort, especially as two of our Clippers were out (Dynes & Gibbons), so the team played short one player.
The Clippers, including Dynes, return to the ice on December 20th for the final regular season game, facing Bradford Bulldogs at Bob Fallis. Every goal and every assist counts! Come cheer on the team and support our bid to feed families in need this Christmas season, and see your favourite team take it to the top-ranked Bulldogs.
