A is for athletic, aspiring and awesome.
It is also for
ASSAULT, ACHES and ASPIRINS.
Put it altogether and you get the
Peewee A Team ADULT Scrimmage on December 28th.
For starters, we're not sure who the real fathers of these kids are???? But there sure did seem to be a high ratio of "dads" to PWA players. It would also be safe to say, evidence showed the apple did not fall far from the tree when it comes to hockey technique in certain skills... (Who is that #13 crushing Owen on the boards, anyway?)
Looking for some action, the Peewee A team dads, sibs and a few cousins came out to give the team a workout on Tuesday, December 28th. Without the benefit or encumbrance of a ref, the black vs white match-up showed some of the true grit it takes to play the game with dirty old men. Showing no mercy, the Big Boys took some of the classic scenes out of Slap Shot (the original!) and kept the tenderfoots dancing to avoid the obstacle course of sticks. Not to be shown up, the PWA Clippers decided to try some of their own "stick-handling" and managed a haul down or two amongst one another.
It's hard to say what the score may have been, but the big-man, "VK", between the pipes faced merciless shots from the Lo-bros while coach "Rye" rumbled in the corners, leaving VK to fend off the "A is for assault" team. The Messner 'boys' teamed up for a point or two, while Max deked out the old man for a point. Rendall's cousin gave Stevens a hard time in the net, and had extra bonus points for the most unexpected and obvious trip of the game, inflicted on his own cousin, Jacob! McLean and son did the "give and go" a fair work-out. The Brown, Rodgers & Dunlop father-son combos were split up to spread out the gene pool. Tratnik cousins played white against Harry's black jersey, and Mitch made good on the Ingelwood Jack threat against his unassuming cousin in the final minutes of play.
The game ended with a bench-clearing brawl, with J.Lo. calling an optometrist for a laser eye consult after being 'clipped' by an unidentified hit & run. Actually, rumour has it that it was a self-inflicted wound , looking to draw a penalty shot.
The game ended in a WIN-WIN. Great call, coach! A good time was had by all!
Half the the PWA Clippers resumed play on Dec 29th with a grueling 3 on 3 Tournament at NTR (5 games, matched up against PW AA and MPW AA teams), and a partial (as available) team takes the ice again on Dec 30th in Exhibition play against Port Perry (7pm on CC1).
The adult "skaters" took to the aspirin bottles, other medicinal support and lazy-z-boy therapy on December 29th in rest-up and recovery-mode, preparing for NYE festivities and boogie-on-down requirements.
THANKS TO ALL FOR COMING OUT
and making it a fun event for the Clippers and the Clipper fan club!
