NHLers Set for Stouffville Charity Game

Add two NHL players and a Hockey Hall of Famer to your lineup sheet for Hockey Night in Stouffville.
Markham NHLers Stephen Weiss (Florida Panthers) and Cameron Gaunce (Colorado Avalanche) have committed to play in the charity game hosted by Oak Ridges-Markham MP Paul Calandra Aug. 18 at the Stouffville Arena.
They’ll be joined by four-time Canadian gold medallist Angela James, one of the first two women inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Markham’s Mike Zigomanis, who led the Toronto Marlies in points last season, will also be in the lineup. He recently re-signed with the Leafs organization.
Phoenix Coyotes Raffi Torres and Ethan Werek have already agreed to take part. Both are Stouffville-area residents.
Celebrity coaches will include ex-NHLer Keith Acton of Stouffville, Toronto Maple Leafs broadcaster Joe Bowen of Markham and Markham youth/high school coaching legend Paul Titanic.
Ex-Leaf Gary Leeman, CTV’s Lance Brown and Whitchurch-Stouffville Mayor Wayne Emmerson are also taking part.
The event will be a fundraiser for Stouffville’s new Royal Canadian Legion and Markham Stouffville Hospital, which is doubling in size.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at:
 • the hospital’s main lobby Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Tuesday
 • Mr. Calandra’s office, 6060 Main St. in Stouffville
 • the legion, 150 Mostar St.
 • the Stouffville Arena Aug. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m..
Free pre-game activities include a community skate from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Stouffville Clippers Sports Complex and a family fun fair on Pad B of the Stouffville Arena from 5 to 7 p.m. Game time is 7 p.m.
Mr. Calandra has invited NHLers past and present from his riding to play in the game, alongside York Region emergency service workers and Stouffville Spirit players and alumni.
